Brand helps identify the cable, not qualify it by itself
A familiar logo is useful, but it does not tell us everything on a reel. Southwire makes several wire families. Encore building wire and Okonite medium-voltage cable need different identification details. Send the product marking with the brand so we can tell what you have without guessing.
We buy other brands too. Our wire and cable buying guide covers the product families we review. Material must be unused, suitable for reuse and yours to sell. We do not buy wire pulled out of service, burned or damaged wire, or cable chopped into short pieces. A known brand does not change those limits.
Building wire brands
We buy surplus building wire from Southwire, Encore Wire and Cerrowire (Cerro). Examples include single-conductor building wire and packaged residential cable.
| Manufacturer | Examples to identify on your lot |
|---|---|
| Southwire | SIMpull THHN/THWN-2 copper building wire |
| Encore Wire | THHN/THWN-2, XHHW-2, NM-B and service entrance cable |
| Cerrowire | THHN/THWN-2, XHHW-2, CerroMax NM-B and UF-B |
For THHN and THWN-2 reels, photograph the size, copper or aluminum marking, color and complete type designation. Keep different sizes and colors separate on your inventory. For residential coils, show the conductor size and count, not just the package color. A partial coil needs its remaining length, not the original package footage.
MC and armored cable brands
We buy AFC Cable Systems, an Atkore brand, along with Southwire, Encore Wire and Cerrowire MC cable. AFC's product family includes Type MC and Type AC cable, plus specialty configurations. Its ColorSpec identification system helps distinguish products, but a stripe alone is not a complete description.
Photograph the packaging label, visible armor markings and any colored identification pattern. Record the conductor count, size, grounding arrangement and exact cable type. Do not label every metal-covered coil as the same product. Type AC and Type MC are different cable designations.
The MC cable page explains the details needed for ordinary and specialty coils. Keep healthcare and lighting-control packages identified separately instead of combining them under a general MC description.
Medium-voltage cable brands
We buy unused Okonite, Kerite, Hendrix and Prysmian/General Cable medium-voltage cable within our 5 kV to 35 kV range. Kerite and Hendrix are current Marmon Utility cable brands. Okonite's catalog includes Okoguard cable, while Prysmian offers Uniblend MV-105 power cable.
These names help locate the correct specification, but the offer needs the cable's actual construction. Show its voltage rating, conductor size and metal, insulation type, shielding and any MV-90 or MV-105 marking. Include the insulation level if it appears on the tag. Do not describe the cable only as a thick black feeder.
For medium-voltage reels, include photos of both ends and their seals. Keep available factory test records with the matching reel or manufacturing number.
Control, instrumentation and tray cable brands
We buy Service Wire, Belden, Okonite and Prysmian/General Cable surplus in these families. Service Wire manufactures power and control tray cable. Belden offers multi-conductor control and instrumentation cable. Okonite and Prysmian also have instrumentation and industrial power/control products.
A part number matters here because similar-looking jackets can cover different constructions. Record the number of conductors, pairs or triads, conductor size, voltage marking and shield arrangement. Photograph the print showing TC or TC-ER when present. Do not assume all cable from the same manufacturer carries the same listing.
For power and control tray cable, list each product number on its own line. Separate matching reels from odd remaining lengths so the total does not hide how much continuous cable is available.
Data and fiber cable brands
We buy Superior Essex Communications and Belden surplus data and fiber optic cable. Both offer copper communications cable and fiber cable. Use the complete label to distinguish the product, not the manufacturer's name or jacket color alone.
For copper data cable, show the category, conductor construction and rating. Belden's Cat6 range includes CMP and CMR products, so the part number helps distinguish plenum from riser cable. Keep opened boxes identified and report remaining footage rather than the printed original quantity.
For fiber optic cable, show the fiber count, single-mode or multimode designation and indoor/outdoor construction. Include the product number and any test paperwork. Do not group fiber and copper data cable together as one unidentified communications lot.
Portable cord and welding cable brands
We buy Carol, a Prysmian brand, including portable cord, welding cable and DLO cable. We also buy Cerrowire SOOW and SJOOW portable cord. A product-family name such as Carol helps identify the manufacturer, but it does not replace the type marking.
For portable cord reels, record SOOW or SJOOW exactly as printed, along with conductor size and count. For welding and DLO cable, keep the two descriptions separate. Photograph the size, voltage marking and full print line rather than calling every flexible single-conductor cable welding lead. Show jacket condition and identify each continuous unused length.
Where to find the brand and manufacture date
Start with the reel tag or the coil's package label. Then photograph a readable section of the repeating print line on the wire insulation or outer cable jacket. On armored cable, retain the package tag and show the manufacturer's visible identification markings.
| Detail | What to send |
|---|---|
| Manufacturer or product-family name | Exact spelling from the label and cable print |
| Product or catalog number | All letters, numbers and suffixes |
| Manufacture date or date code | Clear photo of the tag and any dated print |
| Reel, lot or batch number | Complete number, kept with that reel's details |
| Footage | Remaining length, clearly marked as measured or estimated |
The date may appear on the tag, in the cable print or in a production code. Do not treat an unexplained batch number as a calendar date. If the date is unclear, send the code unchanged. The reel tag and jacket-print guide helps you capture the identification without losing important suffixes.
Mixed Arizona project lots
Arizona project closeouts can contain several manufacturers in one lot. Chandler has an established data-center campus at CyrusOne's PHX1-PHX8. If your leftovers come from a data-center job, keep building wire, shielded power cable and communications cable on separate inventory lines. The project name gives context, but the reel markings identify the cable.
For your closeout, group reels by brand, product number and date before combining quantities. Tell us about sun exposure, water, damaged packaging or missing end seals. Readable identification and matching full reels help the offer; uncertain footage and poor condition make review harder. Send that inventory through Get an Offer, with your Arizona location and ownership paperwork, so we can review the actual lot.
